This is an excellent companion to Barbara Miner's "Lessons from the Heartland". Photographs from the years of struggle help the reader to engage the more academic tone of Mr. Dougherty's tome. He does an excellent job in discussing the multiple struggles of those who wanted the best of the American Public Education System for all children, regardless of race, class, economics or place of residence.
Expectations of book didn’t fit title!
I live in Milwaukee and I am on the cover , I was apart of this movement and the author did a good job on recording this part of history.
