Most of the recipes I wanted to check in practice, and I can say that this is the best thing I did, everything turned out very tasty and for people who are trying to lose weight, you should read this book and this book is exceptionally elegantly composed by the writer and I am profoundly prescribe this book to every one of you folks and the recipes from the book tastes great, they are amazingly simple, and are great for all of us on the go. However the book does provide the needed information to meal prep for keto meals and the recipes from the book tastes great, they are amazingly simple, and are great for all of us on the go.
ALL chocolate chips need to be sugar-free which is not mentioned in her recipes. I personally don't use chips because they can have sugar so I just use pure cocoa powder. Green apples are not keto because they have almost 16 grams of sugar in each one which is not keto at all. Frozen berries have too much natural sugar in them so they should not be eaten. You would NEVER eat yellow, white or red onions because they all have too much natural sugar in them. I use green onions or scallions only because they have the lowest calories and the most nutrition in them. Sherry as with all alcohol has a lot of sugar-type calories in it. And sherry has a lot of sugar calories because alcohol is metabolized as sugar. There's no such thing as a "low carb" tortilla chip. Corn has starch in it and that is immediate from the mouth blood sugar increase. These errors continue in other recipes.
I found some great fat bomb recipes in this book. However, some caution is necessary. A number of the recipes in this book contain foods such as apples and raw honey which are not acceptable in a Ketogenic diet. Honey is a major source of carbohydrates, and has a high glycemic index!
Fat bombs are ideal for you if you lead an active lifestyle, like me. This is ideal when you have not time to eat. It is delicious. I made Savory Salmon Fat Bomb and absolutely love them! These should be the best recipes of all fat bombs.
Keto Fat Bombs such an amazing book. This books all of the recipes idea really great. I am following this book step by guide now I can make Keto Fat Bombs recipes. My family loves this book recipes I appreciate this book. Thanks
The recipes in this book are like no other on the market, and careful attention has gone into pairing the simple yet intricate flavors.
A lot of alcoholic beverages contain high levels of carbohydrates. It is not really difficult to follow the ketogenic diet. Its concept is prettysimple and straightforward. Things get a lot easier if you begin thechanges while grocery shopping and learning how to select your foodaccordingly. But what about eating out? When you have to have dinnerwith family and friends, how can you continue to follow the ketogenicdiet? There are plenty of restaurants that are keto-friendly. They have mealoptions for people who are on the ketogenic diet. You can also suggest aMexican restaurant to your family and friends. This way, you can eatmeats, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole, which are all allowed onthe ketogenic diet. You can also order a fish-based or meat-based dish and some vegetables—just avoid the starchy ones. You can also enjoy egg-based dishes, suchas bacon and eggs or omelette. Bun-less burgers are also a favorite amongketogenic dieters too. You can eat the meat patty and refuse the bread.
WOW!!! This book is brilliant. I am dependably at a misfortune for brisk low carb high fat tidbits and a portion of these exquisite formulas you could use for suppers! Sweet or flavorful, extraordinary formulas for both!suggested.

Federal Witch is one of two series I'll pay list for (Demon Accords is the other) and I'm always glad to see a new volume. If you're following the series, it's another fun chapter in it.It has a few typos and tt does end in a cliff hanger...but I rate based on my enjoyment.Recommended!
So much going on in this story. A lot of Agatha life and fathers backstory is revealed. Her power is growing and she has gained new power. So exciting.
I love the way different parts of the series are coming together. Can't wait for the next in the series ( and the Mongo books)!
Every adventure with Agatha and her group is wild and crazy. And now new info on her dad! Ready for the next book now..lol
Fast paced, exciting, the voice, what’s it all mean, who and what is Agatha and her place in the universe????Damn good read
The author expects you to have read EVERYTHING he's had a hand in, not just this series. He keeps referencing things that never happened in the Federal Witch series, and apparently the main character has gone on multi-month vacations and done things in other series. Not THIS series. If you haven't read them, expect a good chunk of the book to go over your head. I liked his first few books MUCH better before he started writing a bunch of weird crap and expecting you to be an ardent reader of everything he's ever written. The Federal Witch series is good to great for the first five to six books. Stop there.
Congratulations to T.S. Paul this amazing series. It’s hard to stop and take a break while reading this author’s story. It’s difficult to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
I normally don't read continuing series like this but I read the first and got hooked. Shifters, vampires, witches, demons and zombies, oh my!! I read this book in one sitting and except for making tea and bathroom breaks, I couldn't put it down. I yelled out loud at the ending (just warning you) but can't wait for the next book.

I have read all Jack Reacher books by Lee Child, the Peter Ash books by Nick Petrie, and three of the Jane Hawk books by Dean Koontz. I also enjoyed the first John Wick movie. So when I read the description that Lawson Raines was a mix between Jack Reacher and John Wick, I was intrigued. Unfortunately, that intrigue went away quite quickly as I started reading. I don't write reviews for books on Amazon but I actually started marking the pages where I saw horrible writing because I just couldn't get over how bad it was. Here are some of those examples:Pages 105-106, Nick goes to his former partner's house and sees evidence of a break-in. He hears a gunshot upstairs, takes out the first bad guy who yells another guy's name. ""Cassie!" Lawson shouted as he tucked the extra pistol into his pants. Cassie shouted back, "Watch out, Lawson! He's got a gun!" Upon Cassie's cue, a much larger man with a bull neck rounded the wall of the far bedroom. By the look on his face, this man had seen situations like this far more frequently than his partner. He extended a pump-action shotgun in front of him and squeezed the trigger. Cassie giving Lawson the heads-up saved his life. He had managed to dive into the bedroom at the top of the stairs just in time to avoid the oncoming slug." Really?? Cassie's warning saved his life? Because Lawson just took out a bad guy that had a gun, that bad guy yelled another guy's name, and Lawson wouldn't already assume the other bad guy has a gun?? Nope, Cassie yelling, "Watch out, Lawson! He's got a gun" is what saved him.Page 135. Lawson is manipulating the son of a mafia boss to get to the boss. The boss's son says he has proof that his dad met with the chief of police and district attorney. "Dad has a security camera in his office because he doesn't trust anyone, including me, to be in there without him. But he wasn't around when the system was setup. I was. He thought I was at school, so he thinks he and the head of his security are the only ones who can access it. I overheard them discuss the passcode that day and I wrote it down just in case." Riiiight! The mafia boss just happened to verbally say the passcode to his head of security and the son just happened to overhear it. So convenient!Page 141. The author is consistently reminding us what a physical specimen Lawson is. At the end of this chapter, Lawson is in a foot chase with multiple bad guys through LINQ Promenade in Las Vegas and chasing some mafia guys who are in turn chasing the mafia boss's son. "He could tell the men in front of him were starting to slow. This was a log of running and adrenaline dumping. If you weren't in good shape, this would be exhausting. Good thing that wasn't a problem for Lawson." End of chapter. And laughable.Page 174. Lawson and his former partner are in a building waiting for an elevator. Sokolov is the Russian mafia boss, who is different than the above mentioned mafia boss. "...the elevator door dinged and opened to two men who looked an awful lot like some of Sokolov's men who had rushed past them near the downstairs elevator earlier. Sokolov's men registered danger at the same time as Cassie and Lawson did. The wiry, pale-skinned man in a dark suit on the right raised his gun toward Lawson. Lawson instinctively snap-kicked up with his left foot and knocked the gun from the man's hand. But there was no time to get to the other man's gun." Um, watch too many martial arts movies Mr. Wright? I've been training in martial arts for almost 30 years and had no idea that it was that easy to kick the gun out of someone's hand with a snap kick. Good to know.Page 197. Lawson was in jail for 10 years for a crime he didn't commit. His daughter was 2 years old when he went in and he is just now seeing his 12 year old daughter for the first time since then. "Lexi stood from behind the desk where she was sitting. Pure terror on her face. There were two reasons Lawson recognized his daughter immediately after all those years. Of course, from the picture that Cassie had give him the day before. But he wouldn't have even needed that to know it was her, because standing there before him was a younger version of his wife, and instantly he fell in love with her. "Lexi? I..." Lawson didn't have any words." I do, how about yuck? He instantly fell in love with his daughter because she looked like a younger version of his wife?? WTF?These are just a few examples of the horrible writing in this book. I'm no writer and probably couldn't do better but I read a lot of books like this and just couldn't believe how bad the writing was throughout. I was tempted to stop reading it altogether but I pressed forward, hoping it would get better. It didn't.
This stand-alone is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama. The storyline is fast-paced and compelling. Descriptive writing that draws the reader into the emotions of Lawson Raines. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and memorable dialogue.'But sometimes all the mind needs is a seed. Once that seed has been planted, the detective brain has a nurturing way of watering that seed with terrible thoughts, and before you know it, you’ve grown a tree of doubt. Complete with long hanging branches strong enough to tie a rope and hang yourself.''Seed planted. Terrible thoughts watering it. The tree of doubt was on the rise.'No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.
This is a HIGH OCTANE, non stop action thriller!! The characters are well defined and engaging. Bradley Wright has once again knocked it out of the park!! Lawson Raines is a great, strong character. Once you start reading, you won’t put it down! Anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series!!! If you haven’t already read the Xander King series, don’t miss out on another GREAT HERO!! Bradley Wright is my favorite author!!!
Usually love this author work, but this time I got a little board with the lack of excitement. Seems likely his best novel and then it stalls. Not sure where this story's going or will proceed in the future, This is not the Kings series by no means…
Bradley Wright hits another home run with his new compelling protagonist, Lawson Raines. And I never thought I could like another one as much as Xander King. He is compelling because despite his bad luck of going to prison for a murder that he did not commit and at the same time losing his loving wife, Raines comes back from his prison experience and blows open a lot of bad stuff in Las Vegas. And allow me to let you in on one of women's trade secrets - we love men who are both strong and affectionate. He is a ruthless adversary to the bad guys. And for the affection ... we see that in Raines as he reconnects with his daughter after so many years and also how author Bradley Wright describes Raines' feelings for his slain wife. The storyline line is great, the descriptions of action scenes are well-written, and despite many obstacles, our hero Lawson Raines prevails in the end. I can't wait for the next in the series.
Lawson lost his daughter for reasons in life, as have others. As did I. In the end, his story will give you a certain amount of chills. As might mine. Not for being a badass, although he is (me not so much), but for his reaction to hearing the words worth more than anything in this world. “Hi Dad.â€
The book was really unrealistic it was simple reading and I realize this is light reading but come on these things were so outrages that I wanted to put the book down or just throw it away. Terrible! I did finish the book but purchase another in this series hopefully the author will not write one!
Although there were a few surprises in the story line I though overall is was too transparent and everything was revealed too quickly. I vert seldom will open a book that is less than 500 pages for that reason.I prefer the added suspense of trying to figure things out before they happen and then being surprised when I was wrong! But maybe I am not the normal reader that this author is trying to reach. I doubt I will buy another book in this series.

Generic gibberish. There's no magic way to getting your movie out there. Either you know somebody on the inside or you don't. If the yutz knew anything about raising money for a movie he be doing it instead of writing about it. You don't need to pay money to be told to ask your friends and family to invest in your movie.

From the reviews of the fifth edition: "This is the fifth and the most recent edition of a legendary book … . It was probably the first introductory Prolog book and it is still the most gentle introduction to Prolog for everyone, including non-computer scientists. … the book is as great as ever as an introductory text for Prolog. When a newbie asks for an introduction to Prolog, the best advice is still Clocksin & Mellish." (Bart Demoen, TLP-Theory and Practice of Logic Programming, Vol. 5 (3), 2005)

From the Back Cover
Originally published in 1981, this was the first textbook on programming in the Prolog language and is still the definitive introductory text on Prolog. Though many Prolog textbooks have been published since, this one has withstood the test of time because of its comprehensiveness, tutorial approach, and emphasis on general programming applications. Prolog has continued to attract a great deal of interest in the computer science community, and has turned out to be the basis for an important new generation of programming languages and systems for Artificial Intelligence. Since the previous edition of Programming in Prolog, the language has been standardised by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and this book has been updated accordingly. The authors have also introduced some new material, clarified some explanations, corrected a number of minor errors, and removed appendices about Prolog systems that are now obsolete.

#287,706 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)
Pros: - Even someone with no programming or math knowledge could pick up the book, read it, and learn Prolog - Uses ISO-Prolog - Large section of helpful example programsBig Cons: (I'll give citations, only from the first 100 pages to keep things short, lest anyone think I am lying about the problems with the book) - Frequent syntax errors *in program statements* - in Prolog, every comma and period is absolutely essential, when they are missing it entirely changes the meaning of the statement - the book misses them pretty routinely (p 81, twice) - Frequent logic errors - in Prolog, the order of facts and rules is extremely important. The book commonly mixes things up, presenting you with programs that will not work (p 56 - note here that they are trying to give an example of what will/won't work, and they get it backwards) - Frequent editing/formatting errors - charts, diagrams etc are fairly often on the wrong page or in the wrong location, etc. (p 48) - Poor organization - looking through the table of contents, you would think the book is extremely well organized, but as you read it, you'll find new and important ideas thrown into random sections - if you forget something, and need to find it later, you'll probably need to re-skim the entire book. Things are almost never presented in convenient bullets/numbering, almost always in paragraph form, again, making essential ideas tedious to find. - Confusing - I have degrees in math and computer science, and have been programming for 15 years, and I still found parts of the book hard to follow - note that it had nothing to do with Prolog itself, which is actually very straightforward, but rather with the explanations given, which sometimes seem meandering and poorly worded. - A really short and crummy index makes things hard to find. For example, look up "atoms", a concept first mentioned on page 26, and routinely mentioned afterwards, a concept absolutely essential to understanding Prolog - the index shows that the first (and only) time it appears is on page 123.Average Cons: - Authors use an "arrow system" to trace Prolog decision making, I think a table system (which could easily show previous, current, and future steps, and details of each iteration) would have been better while presenting more information in a clearer fashion. - Code re-use - normally a good thing, frustrating in this book. You might have a rule (like a function) called "mother(X)..." early on in the book, not use it for 100 pages, and then it appears again. If you want to try the program out yourself, you'll need to know the exact definition of "mother(X)...". There's no way to find what page the function was on in the index or TOC, so you find yourself spending 30 minutes leafing through the book to find it. 99% of these are a single line of code, so there's really no need to reuse them, it's hardly saving any space. - Overly complex examples - sometimes the authors illustrate an idea with 20 lines of code, when 4 would have been sufficient. It makes for a lot of extra reading and deciphering.Small Cons: - (This could be a pro or con - since I don't know too many people who *start* their programming experience with Prolog, I assume the reader has some experience with programming, and so list this as a con) Book is far too detailed for someone with moderate programming or math experience. This helps some people, but makes it a tedious read for others. Every concept is thoroughly explained. If you're a programmer, this gets a little old during things like variables and recursion. If you know any math, verbose explanations of predicate logic will become tiresome. In fairness, it was no doubt the authors' intention to make a "complete" introduction to Prolog, and so it is hard to criticize this. - (Another pro/con, depending on the reader) British examples - the authors are British (or at least one of them is), and use British references in their code all the time (9th century princes of Wales, p 34; horses who won races in Britain in 1927, p 53) - if you're British this might break up the monotony and make things a little more interesting, if you're not, it just gets a little old, I'd rather see every example just use "cat","dog","mouse".Other: - NOT a good reference book (and it wasn't meant to be), if you know Prolog already and need a reference book, look elsewhere. This is for people who do not know Prolog. Conclusion: - I wish I bought a different book. BUT despite everything, I did adequately learn Prolog from this book, so will reluctantly give it 3 stars.
I went with the reviews that stated that this is the gold standard for learning Prolog and I was not disappointed. While some books on code have you searching for better, working examples on Google; this introduction included all working code organized in a logical and thoughtful manner. Only criticism I would have is that it goes on a little long at times on the theory of the workflow in Prolog, although there may be some people out there who are really interested in this aspect. If you are interested in logic programming at all pick this book up.
This is the "KnR" of Prolog programming. It has the same diversity of style that some people who might want a "how to program Prolog in 24 hours" approach won't appreciate. It covers the basis of the language however in a way that ties together, as all good programming reference books do, the fundamental reasoning that went into the language and how to use it effectively in the way it was meant to be. Great to read on Kindle app.
Programming in Prolog is a clear, precise introduction to Prolog from the ground up. While is does start with the basics, it is an incredibly thorough text, covering all minutia of the language. The text is clear, easy to understand, and to the point, moving quickly through topics without sacrificing understanding. I used this book as a supplementary text in an upper-division college course. After reading only the first four chapters, I knew things about the language that the instructor did not. I highly recommend this book to any programmer of any skill level that is interested in learning the Prolog programming language.Additionally,The following two books were recommended in the preface of Programming in Prolog. The first as a quicker (though not as complete) overview for the experienced programmer, and the second as a language reference.Clause and Effect: Prolog Programming for the Working ProgrammerProlog: The Standard: Reference Manual
Prolog is hard. This will help you across the initial threshold.
good, synthetic and very well written
Prolog is a complex subject, especially for someone not well familiar with mathematical logic. Thus, it is very important how the foundation would be laid down. Typically the books I had read on Prolog tend to two extremes. They are either too condensed for such a complicated subject as logical programming, or too broad and mathematically intensive. I would put this book into the first category. Though very concise and well structured, this book does not seem to be a good primer. I would rather recommend the book of Ivan Bratko "Prolog Programming for Artificial Intelligence (International Computer Science Series)" 2nd edition (the third edition of this book is due in August 2000). Ivan Bratko had managed to find the optimal style of presenting both the essence and the practical aspects of the language. Bratko's book covers various practical applications of the language and manages to convey the basic concepts of Prolog without overwhelming the beginner with too abstract or too condensed passages.Nevertheless, "Programming in Prolog" could be a very good programming reference once you are relatively comfortable with the language.

Review
Now more than ever it is vital for Christians to act responsibly, compassionately and with discernment toward the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims. Dr. Henry Malone has invested decades of personal ministry doing just that. His insightful book is an important contribution to understanding the Islamic world and responding with intelligence and spiritual sensitivity to this paramount challenge to the Church. David Shibley President, Global Advance Dallas, Texas There is an adage that says, “The better we know how our enemy fights, the better we’ll be equipped to fight him.” How true! America was taken off guard when the World Trade Center Towers were demolished on September 11th due to the fact that we didn’t know how Islam would fight us. Islam Unmasked by Dr. Henry Malone lays bare from its beginning how founder Muhammad (670A.D.-632A.D.) established an evil religion that had as its goal to conquer every nation. How? Through slavery of women, population increase, forced conversions, training young children, discipling in our prisons, murder and bloodshed. Yet America calls Islam, “a peace-loving people.” What does the Koran, their holy book teach? Some 80 percent of the Arabs can’t read, write or speak Arabic. It’s up to their caliphates (religious leaders) to interpret the Koran for them. They have no word for salvation. Good works alone are recommended to the 1.2 billion Muslims in the world today. The average American, saved or unsaved, knows little about Islam. Unless we become knowledgeable of their plans, and learn how to bring salvation to them through Jesus, we’ll lose the battle. We dare not allow Islam to tranquilize us! That’s why I recommend so highly you read Islam Unmasked and share it with others. Freda Lindsey Co-Founder, Christ for the Nations Dallas, Texas In a time of much media disinformation, filtered through unholy agendas, this book is a welcome relief. While God loves those of the Islam faith, He does not love the Islam faith itself. In Islam Unmasked, Henry Malone reveals the clear and present danger that Islam presents not only to the Body of Christ, but also to the world. Wise men will head the warning contained herein. John Paul Jackson Founder and Chairman, Streams Ministries International North Sutton, New Hampshire

MONTGOMERY, SY. Birdology: Adventures with Hip Hop Parrots, Cantankerous Cassowaries, Crabby Crows, Peripatetic This a very good book by a very good author on all things animal, but especially on birds. It’s also the fourth book of hers I’ve reviewed, all positively. No! Not positively. Enthusiastically! Because she has the same attitude toward animals that I think all human beings should have: animals are these wonderful cohabitants of our world who teach us humility (we don’t know everything nor is our way the only way), love and compassion. But unlike many other much soupier writers, she does this without excess infusions of unneeded and obfuscatory sentimentality. Instead, heart. Thepoint is that no matter how involved she is with her subjects, she’s not a bleeding heart. She’s a scientist with a heart. An example: this is what she said to an interviewer who wanted to know what she had learned from her work with animals. She replied: “How to be a good creature. How do you be compassionate?… I think that animals teach compassion better than anything else and compassion doesn’t necessarily just mean a little mouse with a sore foot and you try to fix it. It means getting yourself inside the mind and heart of someone else. Seeing someone’s soul, looking for their truth. Animals teach you all of that and that’s how you get compassion and heart.†The New York Times called her “equal parts poet and scientist.†The Boston Globe: “part Indiana Jones and part Emily Dickinson.â€Birdology is a rambling but yet focused look at our dinosaur-related cousins, those truly alien creatures, birds. Chickens first (she wrote lovingly of them in her best known book, The Good, Good Pig). Then cassowaries, then hummingbirds, hawks, pigeons, parrots, and crows. In every chapter, she has both anecdotes and facts to make us realize what they have that we don’t, and how much richer the world is that embraces us along with them –birds along with (arrogant) humans. This is not a bleeding heart boom, nor New Age. It’s the human reflections a very real, very grounded naturalist, writing about subjects on which she has thought long. I rate it up there with the best books of Bernd Heinrich (Mind of the Raven, Ravens in Winter, One Bird at a Time, The Geese of Beaver Bog, The Nesting Season, An Owl in the House). That’s saying a lot.Another thing: the book is lively. Montgomery is a masterful anecdotalist. Combine that with a scientific background and you have someone who can tell meaningful stories about living creatures in an interesting and engrossing way.P.S. Where else would I start? With Colin Tudge's brilliant book, The Birds.
I'm not sure I can say enough about this book. It's a lovely, lyrical tribute; an extraordinary and personal experience; an exceptionally well-written and -researched look into a creature we see daily, but rarely really SEE.A pleasure to read, full of information but never so technical that it bogs the reader down. The author chose her examples very well, and uses a combination of personal experience and scholarly research to beautiful effect. With each chapter, I kept thinking, "this is my favorite," until I got to the next one.If you have any interest at all, even just slight curiosity, I urge you to read this book. You may not love it as much as I do, but I believe you will enjoy it and get a lot back for the time spent.
I absolutely LOVE this book! Sy Montgomery is a wonderful writer with a great sense of humor and a huge heart. As I am also a vegetarian (but not a vegan), I love her sensibility about animals and respect for all living things. this book is in chapters, each chapter about a different species of bird (hawk, chicken, crow, pigeon, etc.) and they are all fascinating. I learn so much from her books in terms of language and understanding. I especially loved her book "The Soul of an Octopus" -- that one was so very special to me. it even made "Finding Dory" more fun since I now knew and understood more about that intelligent and wonderful creature. But I did learn to appreciate and let into my hear, crows. before, I really disliked them and even feared them, but when you realize how intelligent they are, it changes one's perception of them. I pick and choose my way through this book, chapter by chapter. I started with "hummingbirds" which is somewhere in the middle of the book. and I am finishing with 'chickens" which is the first chapter of the book.
To quote one of the people in Birdology: Adventures with a Pack of Hens, a Peck of Pigeons, Cantankerous Crows, Fierce Falcons, Hip Hop Parrots, Baby Hummingbirds, and One Murderously Big Living Dinosaur, Sy Montgomery's goal in this book is allow readers to "experiences the divinity of creation revealed in the birds." Montgomery profiles chickens, cassowaries, hummingbirds, hawks, pigeons, parrots, and crows, each with its unique personality quirks and traits. The end result is a delight to read, especially for avid birders or ornithologists.Birdology isn't a natural history of birds or observations of them in the wild. Ironically, most of the birds Montgomery meets live in captivity of some sort, from her chickens (the "Ladies") to hawks used for falconry (only the cassowaries were truly wild birds). In fact, each chapter seems to focus both on a different species of bird and a person who knows it well, such as a pigeon racer or hummingbird vet.I had mixed feelings about this. Obviously, birds are at their fullest in the wild, and that's where it would really be great to see them. At times, Birdology feels a bit too much like a book about "people and their birds." On the other hand, focusing on these particular birds allows Montgomery to really get to know them well and provide detailed observations. For example, after years of watching her hens in her backyard, she has noticed that certain personality traits are passed from one generation to the next - what we would call culture. Chicken culture - imagine that! While Montgomery loves her birds, she resists the temptation to anthropomorphize them. In fact, the best parts of Birdology discuss how birds are different from humans in ways we don't yet fully appreciate. Many birds still have strong instinctual impulses, from the gull chicks who incessantly peck at red objects to the overwhelming urge birds of prey have to hunt (known as "yarak"). She also suggests Alex, the famous African Grey Parrot, had trouble learning some colors because parrot vision recognizes a broader spectrum of colors than does our own.I do wish Montgomery had chosen more birds to profile, especially when the goal of her book is to give readers some sense of what it means to be a bird. Some of the stories of the more familiar birds have been told in different forms elsewhere. For example, the discussion of Alex the Parrot is also the subject of Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Uncovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence--and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process. Others birds, such as pigeons and crows, are fascinating if not exotic. It would have been nice for example to have had a chapter on penguins, a very different type of bird, or the great wandering albatrosses (the subject of Carl Safina's wonderful Eye of the Albatross: Visions of Hope and Survival). There are so many types of birds - over 10,000 species - so it's impossible to cover them all, but I definitely felt there was room in the book for a few more.Reading Birdology, one gets the feeling that it would be really fun to just be Sy Montgomery. Some of the relationships she's had with birds are truly magical. She doesn't just describe the birds, but also tries to share how it felt emotionally to be in the presence of such wonderful animals. I thought it fascinating for example to hear her describe the hawk as master and the human handling it as the servant. For those of us who haven't been able to spend much time with birds, Birdology conveys that sense of wonder.Note: If you want a straight up natural history of birds, I might suggest David Attenborough's The Life of Birds or Colin Tudge's The Bird: A Natural History of Who Birds Are, Where They Came From, and How They Live. The latter is a bit dry, but comprehensive.
