I’ve been looking foward to this book ever since I started following this guy on Instagram several years ago. I have stayed up all night reading this very detailed, but readable account of the fight against ISIS carried out by coalition forces. It’s interesting to me (in a reverent way) that Mike was near the place US Naval Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Charles Keating IV lost his life. It bothers me as it bothers Mike that our respective nations limited military support in the fight against this evil, but I am thankful that men like NSWO 1C Keating IV lived and sacrificed themselves for a great cause. I will recommend this book to everyone I know🇺🇸

I've been following "Mike" on Instagram for some time and have been deeply intrigued with his involvement with peshmerga. He sheads light on what life is like on the front. I had a huge amount of respect for this man prior to reading his book. Now my respect is literally indescribable. I could not stop reading this book when I started. I accomplished nothing my 12hr midnight shift at work, but it was worth it. Mike really hits the nail on the head describing the "need" or "want" for combat. I can't relate to his specific situation but I can relate to the 1000s of hours and years put into combat training and needing to test yourself. Mike was able to also show the difference between muslims and Islamic terrorists which I believe is something a majority of America needs to be educated on. I could go on for hours with this review but I'll end it by saying it was and excellent read, this will be recommended to everyone I know, and thank you Mike for your service and the shout out to the donors! God bless!

This isn’t the best or worst book but it is nothing but 100% authenticity. The modern warfare is full of bureaucracy, tribalism, cultural clashes, and boredom/sameness. This showed it all! I understood the progress on the reality of war. Even if I never been a soldier myself. It isn’t all about mayhem and hero like sci-fi books. Just a reality...I followed his Instagram while back. He did something that many of us doesn’t...mad respect for him.

How could you not enjoy this book? This man has done what many of us wish we could’ve done but he actually went and did it. I found myself disheartened when I came to the end of this book because I wish there was more to read about this incredible story of one man’s battle against the caliphate.My respect Peshmerganor, you are a true warrior among us.Do yourself a favor and read this book, you will not be disappointed.

I originally stumbled across Mike's reports from the battle in Kurdistan on Facebook, and have been eagerly awaiting his book, and its translation into English. It was well worth the wait.This isn't a "look at me!" tale of glory and heroics, but a down and dirty look at militia-based fighting against a genocidal force that the Iraqi Army had allowed to walk in almost unopposed. Mike's story details the stop and start nature of the battle to reclaim just a small part of Iraq from ISIS, with many outside fingers in the pie. His pride in having taken part in the fight, even through lack of sleep, hygiene, food and the necessary equipment of modern warfare, and at considerable cost to himself, is evident.This is the first thing I've ever reviewed with a write-up on Amazon, but it's that great of a story, and that well told.

I'm not sure how I found Mike on IG, but I know his IG page exploded with followers around the time I started to follow him. Through his IG account, I knew about the details of the War against ISIS, hours if not days before it hit the news.This book is a behind the scenes look at the war. I have the utmost respect for Mike and all the volunteers who were doing the dirty work against ISIS. This book gives you a glimpse of politics on the local and international stage in addition to the limitations those politics put on the volunteer fighters.You get to see, even with outdated equipment, the Peshmerga, push forward against ISIS, who are using modern US equipment abandoned by the Iraqi Armed Forces.If you're a history buff or even into current events, this is a must read.

Amazing. There is so much going on and, most of the time we dont give what happens on the otherside of the world a second thought. The story of an extremely brave man trying to do what he feels to be right even with so many setbacks is a quick and eye opening read. As someone who follows him on Instagram it's great to hear the stories behind the posted pictures.

I’ve been following Mike since the early days of his Instagram. I have followed his journey on Instagram, and when I found out that there was a book, I couldn’t wait to get my copy. I am currently deployed in the Middle East, and I am over halfway through the book. It is a great read, and I would love to hear from Mike! I would recommend to anyone interested in what has been going on, and I would also reccomend to anyone who will be deployed to relevant areas that the book mentions.
